Tahliek Taliaferro, an 18-year-old African-American high school student, was tragically killed on June 24, 2008, in Flat Rock, Virginia. The incident occurred during a confrontation involving two cousins from a white Powhatan County family. Taliaferro was shot in the back of the head with a MAK-90 assault rifle, an event that devastated his family and community.
