In the late hours of June 1, 2018, the Calvert Square neighborhood of Norfolk, Virginia, was disturbed by the sound of gunfire. Responding to a call just before midnight, police discovered 31-year-old Maurice Hyman lying in the 900 block of Bagnall Road with a gunshot wound. He was a Black / African American man.
