On December 8, 2024, at approximately 10:35 p.m., Norfolk police responded to a report of a shooting in the 1500 block of Cary Avenue, a residential area near David Gilbert Jacox Elementary School. Upon arrival, officers discovered 52-year-old James O. Giles Jr. of Chesapeake suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
