In the late hours of a Sunday evening in Norfolk, Virginia, the life of 52-year-old James O. Giles Jr., a Black male from Chesapeake, was tragically cut short. On December 8, 2024, at approximately 10:35 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting in a residential area in the 1500 block of Cary Avenue. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Giles suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to a local hospital for medical attention, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
At the scene of the shooting, authorities apprehended a suspect, 44-year-old Keith E. Brumsey Jr. of Norfolk. Following an initial investigation into the incident, Brumsey was taken into custody and has since been charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is currently being held without bond in the Norfolk City Jail.
While an arrest has been made, the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting remain unclear, as law enforcement has not yet released a motive. The investigation into the death of James O. Giles Jr. is ongoing. Giles was a father of eight and a grandfather of two.
