On the evening of January 9, 2022, the city of Norfolk, Virginia, was rocked by a violent shooting that claimed the life of 28-year-old Keith D. Winstead. A Black / African American male, Winstead was one of three victims in a triple shooting that unfolded inside a residence on Jerome Avenue.
The tragic events began to unfold at approximately 10:55 p.m. when police were dispatched to a home in the 800 block of Jerome Avenue following a report of a gunshot victim.
Upon their arrival, officers found Winstead suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Two other individuals were also wounded in the shooting. Trevon C. Moore, 27, and a 30-year-old woman, later identified as Shakeithya S. Cooper, were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Initially, their injuries were not considered life-threatening; however, Moore's condition worsened, and he later died at the hospital. Cooper, who was treated for a gunshot wound to the ankle, passed away in March 2022 due to delayed complications from her injuries. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner subsequently ruled her death a homicide.
The Norfolk Police Department's homicide detectives are continuing to investigate the triple shooting. According to the ongoing investigation, shots were fired into the apartment through a window. To date, authorities have not released any information regarding potential suspects, and no arrests have been made in connection with the deaths of Keith Winstead, Trevon Moore, and Shakeithya Cooper. The police are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Norfolk Crime Line.
