In the early morning hours of October 5, 2016, the life of 33-year-old Donta M. Lamb was tragically cut short in Norfolk, Virginia. Police responded to calls of a gunshot victim around 4:20 a.m. at the intersection of W. 29th Street and Gosnold Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered Lamb suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving.
The investigation into Lamb's death revealed that he had been at a party
earlier that night in the Park Place neighborhood. While at the gathering, an altercation erupted between Lamb and another man, Mark Willie Walker. The dispute reportedly began after a comment made by Lamb offended Walker. The verbal disagreement quickly escalated into a physical fight. As Lamb attempted to leave the scene, Walker retrieved a firearm and shot him multiple times.
Following the investigation, Mark Willie Walker was arrested and faced several charges, including first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. In June 2019, Walker was convicted on these charges. The trial brought to light the details of the fatal encounter, indicating that Lamb had been shot in the back as he tried to flee. Walker was subsequently sentenced to 30 years in prison for his role in Donta Lamb's death.
