In the early hours of a summer day in Norfolk, Virginia, the life of 44-year-old Michael Jon'te Moore, a Black male, was brought to a violent and tragic end. On July 5, 2022, Moore was discovered with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of those who arrived on the scene to save him, his injuries proved to be fatal, and he succumbed to them.
The incident, which unfolded in the 3000 block of South Cape Henry Avenue around 12:30 p.m., was initially reported as a call for gunshots, leading officers to the grim discovery. Moore was transported to Norfolk General Hospital, where he ultimately died.
The Norfolk Police Department swiftly launched an investigation into the shooting, delving into the circumstances that led to Moore's untimely death. Their work led to the identification of several individuals believed to be involved in the crime. Two men, Xavier Elijah Hudspeth, 21, and his accomplice, Andra Brown, were identified as the primary suspects in the case.

During the course of this armed burglary, a confrontation ensued between the intruders and Michael Moore, which resulted in the fatal shots being fired. Hudspeth was charged with second-degree murder and armed burglary, among other related offenses. Brown also faced a first-degree murder charge, as well as a charge of aggravated malicious wounding.
