On the evening of January 18, 2011, a burst of gunfire shattered the night in the 1400 block of Harwood Street in Richmond, Virginia, forever altering the lives of a local family. Responding to reports of a shooting just after 7 p.m., Richmond police officers discovered two women who had been struck by bullets. One victim survived her injuries, but the other, 29-year-old Regina Nicole Doctor, an African-American female, was pronounced dead at the scene.
