On a tragic Saturday afternoon, January 12, 2013, the life of 17-year-old Clifton Little Jr. was cut short by gun violence in Norfolk, Virginia. The incident unfolded around 3 p.m. in the 1700 block of Greenleaf Drive in the Diggs Town neighborhood. Responding to a call about a shooting, Norfolk police officers found the teenager suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was rushed to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The Norfolk Police Department launched an immediate investigation into the homicide. Within hours, their efforts led to the arrest of 19-year-old Kaleel Spencer Mayhan. Mayhan, who lived in the same neighborhood as the victim, was taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting. He was subsequently charged with murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and was held at the Norfolk City Jail.
The untimely death of Clifton Little Jr. deeply affected his family and the community. His father, Clifton Little Sr., publicly expressed his profound grief over the loss of his firstborn son. He remembered his son as a promising young man and an active member of the Green Run High School football team, where he had been coached by his father from a young age.
