In the late afternoon of June 20, 2024, the sound of gunfire shattered the relative quiet of a Norfolk, Virginia neighborhood, leading to a tragic loss of life. Javid K. Williams, a 19-year-old male, was caught in the violence that erupted around 4:45 p.m. Norfolk Police officers were in the vicinity of the 900 block of Bagnall Road when they heard the gunshots.
Their investigation began in the 800 block of Bagnall Road where they discovered a 23-year-old man with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound; he was subsequently taken to a hospital and later released.
The scope of the incident quickly widened as officers, moments later, found two more victims in the 700 block of Chapel Street. One of these men was Javid K. Williams, who was pronounced dead at the scene from his injuries. The other man, 29-year-old Maurice Stowe, was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries. Tragically, Stowe succumbed to his injuries five days later on June 25, 2024, turning the case into a double homicide.
The Norfolk Police Department is actively investigating the triple shooting. In the immediate aftermath, Police Chief Mark Talbot assured the community that there would be an increased police presence in the neighborhood to aid the investigation and support residents. Despite the ongoing investigation, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects, and no arrests have been made in connection with the deaths of Javid K. Williams and Maurice Stowe.
