Kristina Thay Nguyen, aged 4, disappeared on April 18, 2002, along with her mother, Stephanie Van Nguyen, and her younger brother, John. The family was last seen after Stephanie left her Cincinnati, Ohio home, leaving behind a note stating that her struggling marriage had driven her to a decision to end her life and those of her children. She indicated her plan was to drive her 1997 Nissan Pathfinder into the Ohio River.
On April 19, a police officer in Rising Sun, Indiana, stopped Stephanie's vehicle near a boat ramp for a minor traffic violation. The officer reported seeing two young children, presumed to be Kristina and John, asleep in the backseat. The family was never seen again after this encounter.
In October 2021, nearly two decades later, Stephanie's vehicle was discovered submerged in the Ohio River near Aurora, Indiana. Human remains found inside were later confirmed to be Stephanie’s. However, no trace of Kristina or her brother was found in or around the vehicle. Both children remain classified as missing, and their fates remain unknown.
