Dawnita Wilkerson, a 44-year-old mother of six from Evansville, Indiana, was last seen on June 21, 2020. She was captured on surveillance video getting into a silver 2004 Chevrolet Suburban outside an Evansville motel at around 8:16 p.m. Her phone was either turned off or died the following morning, and she has not been heard from since. Dawnita's family reported her missing when she failed to contact them, which was out of character as she regularly checked in with her mother and
children.
Before her disappearance, Dawnita had expressed fears for her safety, mentioning that two men, including an ex-boyfriend, had been threatening her and her family. The ex-boyfriend had a history of domestic violence, having been arrested multiple times for assaulting her. Dawnita had even changed her phone number to avoid these men, but they managed to find her new contact information. On the morning she went missing, she told a family member that she was scared and asked if they knew anyone who owned a gun.
The vehicle Dawnita was last seen entering has been identified, and its owner, believed to be one of the men she feared, has been uncooperative with the investigation. Despite extensive efforts by the FBI and local law enforcement, Dawnita's whereabouts remain unknown, and her case is considered suspicious. She left behind six children and multiple medical conditions requiring medication that she did not have with her at the time of her disappearance.
