In the early hours of May 22, 2013, a verbal dispute in the Lynhaven neighborhood of Alexandria, Virginia, tragically escalated, ending the life of 22-year-old Julian Dawkins. The young man, a shuttle driver for 'PBS Newshour' and a T.C. Williams High School alumnus, was fatally shot by Craig Patterson, an off-duty Arlington County Sheriff's Deputy who was new to the neighborhood. The initial argument reportedly centered on who had the right to be in the area.
