In the winter of 2016, the life of a young Black/African American teenager, Duane White, was tragically cut short at the age of 15. On the evening of January 4th, in the city of Norfolk, Virginia, a call was made to the police reporting a shooting. Officers arrived at a residence on Bankhead Avenue to find the young male suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the death of the 15-year-old boy swiftly led to a suspect. The day after the fatal shooting, detectives arrested 18-year-old Tyler K. Ricks in connection with the incident. Ricks, who resided on the same block where the shooting occurred, was taken into custody and faced serious charges for his alleged involvement in Duane White's death.
Following his arrest, Tyler K. Ricks was charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He was subsequently held in the Norfolk City Jail without bond. At the time of the arrest, law enforcement officials did not release details regarding the relationship between the victim and the suspect, nor did they provide information about the circumstances that led to the deadly shooting as the investigation was ongoing.
