In the late afternoon of April 13, 2016, the sound of gunshots shattered the quiet of the 800 block of Lindenwood Avenue in Norfolk, Virginia. When police arrived shortly before 3:00 p.m., they discovered 21-year-old Myquan McCloud near the road, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Myquan, a Black / African American male, was a father to two young daughters, ages four and two months at the time of his death.
The police investigation swiftly identified a
suspect in the fatal shooting. Malcolm Pittman, a 26-year-old from Norfolk, was identified as the individual responsible for McCloud's death. Detectives secured warrants for Pittman, charging him with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Later that same night, with the assistance of the Chesapeake Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, Malcolm Pittman was arrested in the neighboring city of Chesapeake. The arrest was made without incident. Following his apprehension, Pittman was transported to the Norfolk City Jail, where he was held without bond.
