In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Norfolk, Virginia, tragedy struck, leaving a family to mourn and a community with questions. On May 2, 2021, 41-year-old Christopher M. Mercer, a male resident of Norfolk, was fatally shot. The incident unfolded around 3:45 a.m. in the 800 block of Fremont Street, a residential area that was suddenly thrust into the center of a homicide investigation.
