In the late summer evening of August 28, 2016, the life of Antonio M. Grier, a 37-year-old Black male, was tragically cut short in Richmond, Virginia. At approximately 9:27 p.m., the sound of gunfire shattered the quiet of the 4800 block of Orcutt Lane. When police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Grier unresponsive in a garden area, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The initial investigation provided a fleeting glimpse of those who may have been responsible for Grier's death. Several witnesses reported seeing suspects fleeing the area in a grey vehicle shortly after the shots were fired. The Richmond Police Department launched a homicide investigation, and the Medical Examiner's office later confirmed that Grier's death was a homicide.
In the years that have followed, the case of Antonio Grier's murder has remained unsolved. Despite appeals to the public for information and the offer of rewards for tips that could lead to an arrest, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made.
