In the early morning hours of a Tuesday in Richmond, Virginia, the life of 24-year-old Terrell M. Hancock Jr., known to friends and family as 'Dexter,' was tragically cut short. On September 19, 2023, at approximately 12:45 a.m., the sound of gunfire pierced the night in the 1500 block of Mechanicsville Turnpike. Richmond Police officers responded to the reports and, upon arrival, discovered a grim scene.
There, on a walkway at the front of a building, they found a young man,
unresponsive. It was Terrell Hancock, a resident of nearby Chesterfield. He had sustained an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. The promising life of a young man, who had once been featured as a child playing for the Mosby Spartans little league team, was over.
In the aftermath of the shooting, detectives began their investigation into the homicide. As of now, the circumstances that led to the shooting remain unclear, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the case. The Richmond Police Department has appealed to the public for assistance, urging anyone with information to come forward and contact Detective C. Tovar or Crime Stoppers.
