In the early hours of New Year's Day 2020, the life of Amir Suluki II, a 33-year-old Black / African American male, was tragically cut short in a shooting in Richmond, Virginia. The incident occurred in the Gilpin Court neighborhood, a community known to face challenges with crime.
Richmond Police responded to a call of a shooting in the 900 block of St. Paul Street at approximately 4:38 a.m.
Upon their arrival, they discovered Suluki in a courtyard behind an apartment building, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite medical efforts, Amir Suluki II succumbed to his injuries two days later.
In the wake of the shooting, detectives from the Richmond Police Department began an investigation into the city's first homicide of the new year.
