In the winter of 2019, a life was tragically cut short in Henrico, Virginia, just outside of Richmond. On the evening of January 18th, emergency responders were called to the 600 block of N. Laburnum Avenue around 5:40 p.m. following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered two men who had sustained gunshot wounds. One of these men was 29-year-old Sylvester M. Brown Jr.
Despite the efforts of emergency crews, Sylvester Brown Jr. was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second man found at the location was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The community was shaken by this act of violence that ended the life of the young Richmond resident.
Investigators determined that the shooting stemmed from an altercation between the two men who were shot. In the days following the incident, Henrico County Police announced that they were not searching for any other individuals in connection with the shooting. Authorities also made it a point to clarify that this particular case was separate from other recent homicide investigations that had occurred in the same vicinity. The investigation concluded that no additional suspects were being sought, and further details regarding the circumstances of the altercation have not been publicly released.
