In the early morning hours of August 2, 2020, the life of 36-year-old Jerome Montague, a male from Richmond, Virginia, was tragically cut short. Responding to a report of a shooting at approximately 1:30 a.m. in the 2000 block of Dawson Road, Richmond Police officers discovered Montague by the side of a residence, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Another adult male was also found at the scene with an apparent gunshot wound.
This second victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Richmond Police Department quickly launched a homicide investigation into the deadly shooting.
In the days and weeks that followed, authorities appealed to the public for assistance in solving the case. Metro Richmond Crime Stoppers featured the case as a 'Crime of the Week,' urging anyone who was in the area or who might have witnessed the shooting or individuals fleeing the scene to come forward. A cash reward of up to $1,000 was offered for any information that would lead to an arrest. Investigators also specifically requested that residents and businesses in the vicinity check their surveillance cameras for any relevant activity between 12:30 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. on the morning of the incident.
Despite these public appeals for information and the ongoing investigation by the Richmond Police Department's Major Crimes detectives, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests or the identification of any suspects in the years following the death of Jerome Montague. The case is still seeking resolution.
