In the late hours of Valentine's Day in 2019, a tragic event unfolded in Richmond, Virginia, leading to the death of 27-year-old Edwin D. Gonzales-Urbina. On Thursday, February 14th, Gonzales-Urbina sustained a gunshot wound in the 3100 block of Broad Rock Boulevard.
Following the shooting, at approximately 10:54 p.m., the Richmond Police Department was notified after Gonzales-Urbina arrived at a local hospital.
Despite receiving medical care, he succumbed to his injuries several hours later. The subsequent investigation by the Medical Examiner officially ruled his death a homicide.
Detectives with the Richmond Police Department's Major Crimes unit began an investigation into the shooting. In the time since the incident, authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or announced any arrests in connection with the case. The circumstances surrounding the shooting and a potential motive have not been disclosed as the investigation continues. Law enforcement has previously asked for anyone with information regarding the homicide to come forward.
