In the late summer of 2022, the life of 17-year-old David Dupree, a Black male known affectionately as 'Dae Dae,' was tragically cut short in Richmond, Virginia. On the morning of September 18th, Dupree, a student at Henrico High School, was fatally shot near the St. Luke Apartments. His sudden and violent death sent ripples of grief and shock through his community, leaving friends and family to mourn the loss of a young life full of promise.
In the days that followed, those who knew him gathered to honor his memory, holding a vigil where candles, signs, and balloons painted a picture of a beloved individual whose absence would be deeply felt.
The investigation into Dupree's death moved swiftly, and before long, the Henrico Police announced a breakthrough in the case. A juvenile suspect was taken into custody and faced a petition for second-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting. This initial arrest, however, did not close the case. The ongoing investigation led to the arrest of a second teenager, also a juvenile, who was similarly charged in Dupree's death. Due to the ages of the suspects, their identities were not publicly released.
The charges of second-degree murder brought against the two teens suggested that authorities believed the killing was intentional, though not premeditated.
