In the early morning hours of March 8, 2020, the life of 26-year-old Jarell D. Hairston, a Black male, was tragically cut short in Norfolk, Virginia. At approximately 1:40 a.m., dispatchers received a call about a gunshot disturbance at a Shell gas station located in the 400 block of Saint Paul's Boulevard. When police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Hairston suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite any efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
