In the late afternoon of June 2, 2020, tragedy struck at an apartment complex in Newport News, Virginia, claiming the life of 20-year-old Traveon Kamarri Holland. A Black/African American male, Holland was at a residence in the 500 block of Woodall Court when gunfire erupted just after 4:30 p.m. The incident resulted in a chaotic scene, with three men suffering from gunshot wounds.
Newport News Police responded to the calls of a shooting and, upon their arrival, discovered the three
victims. Holland was one of the individuals who had been shot. He was rushed to a local hospital for medical attention, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The other two victims, aged 18 and 19, also sustained gunshot wounds, but their injuries were considered to be non-life-threatening.
The motive for the shooting that ended Traveon Holland's life has not been made public, and the investigation into the incident remains ongoing. To date, there have been no arrests made in connection with the homicide, and no suspects have been publicly identified by law enforcement officials. The Newport News Police Department has continued to appeal to the public for any information that might lead to a breakthrough in the case. The community has been left mourning the loss of the young man, while his family and friends await answers and justice for his untimely death.
