Jermell Hayes, a 17-year-old from Newport News, Virginia, was tragically killed in a shooting on May 15, 2016. The incident occurred around 1 a.m. in the 300 block of Deputy Lane, near a park and basketball court where children frequently played. Hayes was found with multiple life-threatening gunshot wounds and was rushed to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries.
