In the late hours of a summer evening in Newport News, Virginia, tragedy struck. On June 9, 2020, Micah Z. Dixon, a 21-year-old Black man from Hampton, was shot and killed. The incident unfolded around 10:15 p.m. in the 500 block of Randolph Road.
When Newport News police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds. Dixon was found inside a vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. A second victim, a 23-year-old man from Suffolk, was found outside the vehicle with non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement had no information on a suspect. The Newport News Police Department urged anyone with information to come forward to assist in the investigation. Despite their efforts, the case remains an open investigation. No arrests have been made, and no suspect or suspects have been publicly identified, leaving a community and a family still seeking answers and justice for the loss of a young life.
