On June 23, 2024, at approximately 2:13 a.m., Newport News police responded to a ShotSpotter alert indicating gunfire in the 700 block of 36th Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 34-year-old Wayne Hill of Hampton suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
