In the early morning hours of November 8, 2018, the life of 26-year-old Steven Christopher Richardson was tragically cut short in Newport News, Virginia. Police and fire officials received a call around 1:34 a.m. about an unresponsive man lying on the ground in the 600 block of Ridley Circle, the very street where Richardson lived.
Upon their arrival, first responders found Richardson suffering from a gunshot wound.
Despite their efforts to resuscitate him, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Newport News Police Department subsequently launched a homicide investigation into the shooting.
In the wake of the incident, members of the Newport News Police Department and local faith leaders organized a community walk to foster a sense of care and encourage citizen engagement in the effort to bring an end to such violence. At the time of the initial reports, authorities had not released any information about a potential suspect or suspects in the case. Despite the passage of time, there have been no publicly announced arrests or naming of any individuals of interest in connection with the death of Steven Christopher Richardson, leaving his case unsolved.
