In the afternoon hours of a late spring day in Norfolk, Virginia, tragedy struck on Hickory Street. On June 22, 2020, first responders received a call around 1:15 p.m. concerning a man who had been shot. Upon their arrival in the 9400 block of the residential street, they discovered 53-year-old Darrell W. Moorehouse suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.
Despite the efforts of the emergency personnel, Moorehouse succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene before he could be transported to a hospital.
The investigation into the death of Darrell Moorehouse quickly progressed. By the following day, Norfolk Police announced that they had made an arrest in the case. Brian M. Tharrington, a 19-year-old from Norfolk, was taken into custody and charged in connection with Moorehouse's murder. Tharrington faced charges of second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He was subsequently held without bond at the Norfolk City Jail. While an arrest was made, law enforcement officials did not publicly release a motive or the specific circumstances that led to the fatal shooting.
