In the early morning hours of July 4, 2020, tragedy struck in the Park Place section of Norfolk, Virginia, forever altering the lives of the family and friends of Daniel D. Yancey II. A Black male, 29-year-old Daniel, was fatally wounded in a shooting that also left another man with life-threatening injuries. The incident unfolded around 3:20 a.m. in the 400 block of West 34th Street, where police responded to a call about a gunshot victim.
