On a Tuesday evening, May 4, 2021, the life of 48-year-old Christopher J. Hollandsworth, a resident of Chesapeake, Virginia, was tragically cut short. The incident unfolded around 7:40 p.m. in the 400 block of North Military Highway in Norfolk. When police officers arrived at the scene near an Arby's restaurant, they discovered Hollandsworth suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.
Paramedics quickly transported him to Sentara Leigh Hospital for medical attention.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Christopher J. Hollandsworth succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. Originally from Texas, his final journey was a flight back to his home state, where he was laid to rest the following month.
At the scene of the shooting, officers took 56-year-old Edward F. Gadsen Jr., of Norfolk, into custody. Gadsen was subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He was being held without bond in the Norfolk City Jail. Investigators at the time believed the shooting was an isolated incident, and the specific motive or the circumstances leading up to the fatal encounter have not been publicly released.
