In the Villa Heights neighborhood of Norfolk, Virginia, a young man's life was cut short in a burst of violence that unfolded around midday. On September 15, 2025, Norfolk Police were called to the 700 block of East 28th Street just before noon, responding to a report of a person who had been shot. Upon their arrival, officers discovered 19-year-old Montario D. Johnson Jr. suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to a local hospital for medical attention, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the shooting continued for two months as detectives worked to piece together the events that led to Johnson's death. Their efforts culminated in an arrest on the morning of November 19, 2025. At approximately 11:10 a.m., Norfolk Police took a suspect into custody, bringing a significant development to the case that had left a community unsettled.
The individual arrested was identified as 19-year-old Pierre Delaigle of Virginia Beach. Following the investigation, authorities charged Delaigle with second-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. It was also noted that he faced additional charges unrelated to the homicide of Johnson. Delaigle is currently being held in the Norfolk City Jail without bond.
