In the autumn of 2020, the life of 67-year-old Estelle D. Pugh was tragically cut short in her Richmond, Virginia apartment. On the morning of Tuesday, October 6, 2020, police were called to conduct a welfare check at her residence located in the 3600 block of Chamberlayne Avenue. Upon entering the apartment around 8:22 a.m., officers made a grim discovery. Pugh was found suffering from trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner was tasked with determining the official cause and manner of her death.
The investigation into Pugh's homicide led detectives to identify a person of interest. Their inquiries soon focused on Louis Ellis, Jr. Investigators initially charged Ellis with felony credit card fraud related to the murder case.
