In the spring of 2013, the life of Christine Mae Squire, a 33-year-old female, was tragically cut short in a violent encounter at her Richmond, Virginia home. On the afternoon of Saturday, April 20th, concerned for her well-being, police officers arrived at the residence located on Rusk Avenue. Their attempt to check on her was met with gunfire from within the house.
The individual who fired upon the officers was identified as 38-year-old Clarence Friend Taylor II.
An exchange of gunfire ensued between Taylor and the police, during which two officers sustained injuries. After the initial exchange, the officers tactically withdrew from the immediate vicinity of the home. The situation then transitioned into a barricade scenario.
Later that evening, after attempts to make contact went unanswered, members of the police department's SWAT team made entry into the residence. Inside, they discovered the bodies of both Christine Mae Squire and Clarence Friend Taylor II. The investigation determined that Taylor had shot and killed Squire before turning the gun on himself, taking his own life. The case was subsequently ruled a murder-suicide, and with the suspect deceased, no arrests were made in connection with Squire's death.
