In the early morning hours of February 27, 2021, the life of 19-year-old Grayson William Babbs was tragically cut short in Richmond, Virginia. Officers from the Richmond Police Department responded to a call at approximately 2:11 a.m. regarding a person shot in the 900 block of St. Paul Street. Upon their arrival, they discovered Grayson, a Black / African American male, unresponsive on the sidewalk, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The medical examiner was tasked with determining the official cause and manner of death, which was later confirmed to be a homicide.
Grayson was remembered for his fiercely competitive nature, infectious smile, and big tender heart. He had a love for sports, particularly football and basketball. Socially aware, he had begun working on a non-profit initiative to feed the homeless in downtown Richmond. He also had a passion for reading and would enthusiastically discuss science, history, and how people could make a positive change. Those who knew him said that to know Grayson was to love him.
The investigation into Grayson's murder remains ongoing. Immediately following the incident, the Richmond Police Department did not release any descriptions of potential suspects. Authorities have urged anyone with information to contact Major Crimes Detective G. Bailey or to report tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
