In the early hours of May 6, 2022, the life of 38-year-old Jermorlo Napolean Butler, a Black / African American male, was tragically cut short in Richmond, Virginia. Richmond Police responded to a call about a shooting at approximately 1:46 a.m. in an apartment on Rosetta Street, located in the Fairfield Court neighborhood. Upon arrival, they discovered Mr. Butler with gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Alongside him, his longtime friend, Demetrise Simmons, was also found suffering from gunshot wounds. Ms. Simmons was transported to a local hospital for treatment but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries, turning the case into a double homicide investigation. The loss of both individuals has left their families devastated as they continue to seek justice.
While the discovery was made in the early morning, investigators believe the actual shooting took place many hours earlier, at around 4 p.m. on May 5, 2022, nearly ten hours before the police were alerted to the scene. This detail has been shared with the public in the hopes of jogging the memory of potential witnesses who may have seen or heard something significant during that time frame.
To date, no arrests have been made in connection with the murders of Jermorlo Napolean Butler and Demetrise Simmons. The case remains an open and active investigation. The families have been vocal in their pleas for anyone with information to come forward and have offered a reward for details that lead to an arrest.
