On September 2, 2021, 31-year-old Jovan Patterson, a woman of African American ethnicity from Dayton, OH, was tragically shot and killed at her apartment complex on Hepburn Avenue. Dayton police and medics responded to the scene just before 11 p.m. after receiving a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found Patterson deceased. The initial investigation indicated that Patterson and the suspect were acquainted, but the exact circumstances leading to the shooting remained unclear.
