In the spring of 2021, the life of 21-year-old Daymeion Nakeese Carmon-Faison was tragically cut short. On the evening of May 2nd, police responded to a call about a shooting in the 200 block of Poplar Avenue in the Berkley section of Norfolk, Virginia. Upon their arrival around 8 p.m., they discovered Carmon-Faison suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.
He was quickly transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, but sadly, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Daymeion, known affectionately as 'Gotti,' was a Norfolk native who grew up in the Norview community. He was a father to a son and a daughter. Remembered as a respectful and caring individual, he had worked at the Navy Lodge and Colonna's Shipyard. His sudden and violent death sent ripples of grief through his family and the wider community, who mourned the loss of a young life.
The investigation into the shooting swiftly led to a suspect. Four days after the incident, on May 6th, the Norfolk Police Department arrested 28-year-old Shavyonne M. Vick. She was charged in connection with Carmon-Faison's death and faced a slate of serious charges, including second-degree murder, two counts of attempted malicious wounding, and three counts of use of a firearm. Following her arrest, Vick was held without bond at the Norfolk City Jail. While authorities did not release a specific motive, they indicated that the shooting was not a random act of violence.
