On a summer evening in Newport News, Virginia, the life of 24-year-old Brian Austin Moore was tragically cut short. On July 12, 2021, Moore was the victim of a fatal shooting in what was reported as a double shooting incident. The male victim, Moore, was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. A 21-year-old woman was also found with life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
An investigation into the shooting led to the arrest of Robert Damon Stonewall, a 24-year-old man from Hampton, Virginia, just ten days later. Stonewall was taken into custody with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals' Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Hampton Police Division. He faced a series of serious charges, including first-degree murder, malicious assault, and multiple firearm offenses.
Subsequent legal proceedings revealed that the shooting was the culmination of a dispute involving romantic relationships and retaliation. It was reported that after an earlier altercation where Moore had allegedly pistol-whipped Stonewall, Stonewall acquired a firearm. He then confronted Moore and the female victim outside an apartment complex. Following a verbal exchange, Stonewall fired multiple shots, killing Moore and severely injuring the woman. An appeal by Stonewall was later denied, with the court finding that he was the aggressor in the fatal encounter.
