In a tragic turn of events stemming from a family dispute, 25-year-old Dalontae Taylor lost his life in Newport News, Virginia. On the evening of April 17, 2024, police responded to a call at a residence on 16th Street around 7:20 p.m., where they discovered three individuals with gunshot wounds.
The incident, which police have described as domestic-related, escalated from a heated family argument.
According to Newport News Police Chief Steve Drew, the conflict involved Taylor and Tracey Williams, 54, who was in a relationship with Taylor's mother. Following an initial argument, Williams reportedly left the home, only to return a short time later and resume the dispute.
The situation took a fatal turn when Williams brandished a firearm and opened fire. In an act of self-defense, Dalontae Taylor responded to the threat. The exchange of gunfire resulted in the deaths of both Taylor and Williams. A third individual, identified as Taylor's brother, was also struck by a bullet but survived his injuries.
Authorities have stated that they are not searching for any other suspects in connection with the shooting, as the incident was contained within the household. The investigation concluded that the tragic outcome was the result of a domestic argument that escalated to violence.
