On the evening of November 17, 2016, Marquail Lamar Manley, a 24-year-old Black male, was fatally shot in Newport News, Virginia. A graduate of Menchville High School and originally from Suffolk, Virginia, Manley was known by loved ones for his respectful and loving nature. The shooting occurred shortly after 9:30 p.m. outside the Harpers Landing Apartments, where Manley was found on a staircase and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
