On August 21, 2023, 22-year-old Daysjon Jarmar Yasper of Newport News, Virginia, tragically lost his life in a shooting incident near Christopher Newport University. The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. when police responded to reports of shots fired near the intersection of J. Clyde Morris Boulevard and Warwick Boulevard, in front of the Ferguson Center for the Arts.
