In the early morning hours of May 1, 2016, tragedy struck in Newport News, Virginia, forever altering the lives of the Singleton family. Lavelle Tyrone Singleton, a 37-year-old Black male, was fatally wounded in a shooting that occurred just before 6 a.m. in the 1200 block of 25th Street. He was one of two individuals shot in the incident. Despite the immediate response from emergency personnel, Singleton succumbed to his injuries, leaving a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
