In the early morning hours of June 29, 2014, the life of 33-year-old Jamar Sherald Clarke, a Black male, was tragically cut short in his Newport News, Virginia home. Police received a call about gunshots in the 600 block of Ridley Circle at approximately 12:23 a.m. and a subsequent call about an unconscious man. Upon their arrival, they discovered Clarke on his kitchen floor, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his torso.
Medics pronounced him deceased at the scene.
Witnesses reported seeing a man and a woman fleeing the scene in a white, full-size car, possibly a Ford Crown Victoria or Chevrolet, which had a push bumper on the front. The suspects were described as a dark-skinned Black male with a fade haircut and a heavy-set white female.
Despite the initial leads and descriptions of the suspects and their vehicle, no arrests have been made in the years following Clarke's death. The Newport News Police Department has continued to investigate the homicide and has periodically asked the public for any information that might lead to an arrest. The case remains open and unsolved, leaving a community and a family waiting for justice. The lack of resolution in Clarke's murder is a painful reminder of the violence that plagued the Hampton Roads area in 2014.
