On the night of October 24, 2021, 24-year-old Dylan Poonsammy was fatally shot multiple times in the parking lot of the Rivertowne Apartments on Westover Hills Boulevard in Richmond, Virginia. Richmond Police responded to the scene around 9:50 PM, where they found Poonsammy, who was pronounced dead from his injuries. Poonsammy, a father with a young son and another child on the way, was remembered by his mother as a generous and loving individual.
The investigation into his death led to
an arrest in November 2021. A suspect was charged with conspiracy to commit murder. However, the individual was later released from custody due to a lack of sufficient evidence to proceed with the case. This development left the investigation open and Poonsammy's family still searching for answers and justice.
In the years following his death, Dylan's mother, Sherry Poonsammy, has continued to appeal to the public for any information that could lead to an arrest and conviction. The family has offered a $10,000 reward for information that helps solve the case. The Richmond Police Department's cold case unit has since taken over the investigation, working to piece together the events of that fatal night. Despite the passage of time, the case remains unsolved, and the family continues to hope for closure.
