On a tragic day in June of 2022, Samuel Jones, a 66-year-old male, was killed in a quadruple shooting in Portsmouth, Virginia. The violent event that claimed his life and the lives of three other individuals unfolded inside a home on Maple Avenue, shaking the local community. The other victims were identified as Ashley Merricks, 34, Georgio Devontae Lee, 30, and Oleisha Deanna Mears, 37.
The investigation into the four murders continued for over two months before a significant
breakthrough was announced by the Portsmouth Police Department. Through tips provided by the community, which included a description of a suspect and images of his vehicle, authorities were able to identify a person of interest. This individual was taken into custody following his involvement in another, unrelated shooting in the city.
Following the apprehension of the suspect, police charged Raymond Gore with four counts of aggravated murder in connection with the deaths of Samuel Jones and the other three victims. At the time of his arrest, law enforcement also announced they were actively searching for a second suspect, identified as Antoine Gore, who was also facing murder charges and was considered to be armed and dangerous. Family members of the victims expressed their gratitude for the arrest and pleaded for the second suspect to surrender to the authorities so he could have his day in court. While an arrest was made, the motive behind the deadly shooting has not been publicly released by the police.
