On the evening of August 4, 2023, 56-year-old Birmingham resident Diangelo Freeman was fatally shot while seated in his vehicle in the 7400 block of 4th Avenue South. At approximately 9:50 p.m., officers from the East Precinct responded to reports of a person shot and discovered Freeman unresponsive inside his car, suffering from a gunshot wound. Birmingham Fire and Rescue personnel arrived shortly thereafter and pronounced him deceased at the scene.
