In the city of Birmingham, Alabama, a tragic story unfolded, leaving a family grieving and a community searching for answers. Erskin Irvin Jr., a 37-year-old man, became a victim of gun violence on May 11, 2023. That day, police responded to a shots fired call on 33rd Street North and discovered Irvin inside a vehicle, suffering from gunshot wounds.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, and a homicide investigation was launched.
Investigators believe the attack on Irvin was not a random act of violence, but rather a targeted assault. It is thought that at least two suspects were involved in the shooting. Surveillance footage from the area reportedly captured three men emerging from a wooded area and opening fire on Irvin. After the shooting, the suspects are said to have fled towards the Norwood bottoms area. Despite these leads, no arrests have been made in connection with Irvin's murder, and the case remains unsolved. The pain for the Irvin family was compounded by another devastating loss just over a year later. On May 29, 2024, Erskin's brother, Valdez Stevenson, was also found fatally shot in the roadway of 13th Avenue North. As with his brother's case, no arrests have been made in Stevenson's murder. The family, left to mourn the loss of two of their own, continues to hope for justice as the investigations into both tragic deaths continue.
