On July 12, 2023, at approximately 8:30 a.m., Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service firefighters Jordan Melton and Jamal Jones were shot while on duty at Fire Station 9 in the Norwood community of Birmingham, Alabama. Both firefighters sustained serious injuries and were transported to a local hospital. Despite medical efforts, 29-year-old Jordan Melton succumbed to his injuries on July 17, 2023.
