On March 20, 2023, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Birmingham Police Department officers responded to a report of a shooting at an apartment in the 300 block of 1st Avenue North. Upon arrival, they discovered 29-year-old James Lee Washington suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to UAB Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
